A hot and spicy fish curry to spice up your taste buds like never before. It's extremely comforting, easy to make and a definite treat to the taste buds.

FISH AMBOTIK

Ingredients

4-5 surmai darnes
Salt to taste
½ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp red chilli powder
1 tbsp kokum pulp
Spice paste
2 tsps cumin seeds
2 tsps coriander seeds
3-4 cloves
½ inch cinnamon stick
1 cup scraped fresh coconut
3 dried red chillies
1 tbsp chopped garlic
½ tbsp chopped ginger
2 tbsps kokum pulp
Gravy
2 tbsps oil
2 medium onions, finely chopped
Salt to taste
2-3 green chillies, slit
1 tbsp tamarind pulp

Method

1. Take surmai darnes in a bowl, add salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and kokum pulp and rub the spices well on each darne. Set aside for 30 minutes.
2. To make the spice paste, dry roast cumin seeds, coriander seeds, cloves and cinnamon stick in a pan till fragrant.
3. Put coconut in a blender jar, add roasted spices, dried red chillies, garlic, ginger, kokum pulp and ½ cup water and blend to a fine paste.
4. To make the gravy, heat oil in a deep pan, add onions and sauté till golden brown.
5. Add blended paste and sauté well. Add salt, mix, cover and cook for 3-4 minutes or till the oil is separated.
6. Add 1¼ cups water and stir, cook for 1-2 minutes. Slide in the marinated fish darnes and gently stir. Add green chillies and tamarind pulp and mix well. Cover and cook on medium heat for 8-10 minutes.
7. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
