SINGAPORE HAWKER FOOD Queenstown Lontong Tanglin Halt Food Centre

Established by her grandmother in 1960s, third generation stall owner Ms Yatie helms the stall. She is known for her Lontong, Mee Rebus, Mee Soto and Nasi Lemak. One would be amazed by her efficiency as most of the dishes are whipped up by her in a mere 2 hours. The rich, thick Mee Rebus gravy is made with potatoes, while Mee Soto soup is boiled with chickens till rich and flavourful.

Ms Yatie's Lontong has a distinct aroma of coconut milk, sprinkled with homemade Serundeng (fried coconut flakes) and topped with Sambal chilli. Her Begedils (potato cake) are made by mashing, hand-rolling into little balls, coating with eggwash, then frying.

Tanglin Halt will be demolished to make way for new developments soon. The hawkers at Tanglin Halt Food Centre will be relocated to Margaret Drive Hawker Centre #01-27, which is currently under construction.
