Basic Shortbread


1. 1. Preheat the oven.

2. 2. Cream the margarine and sugar until light and fluffy and almost white in colour.

3. 3. Sieve the flour onto a plate.

4. 4. Add a spoonful of flour to the creamed mixture and work in with a wooden spoon.

5. 5. Repeat this until all the flour has been used, then use your hand to bring the mixture together to form a stiff dough.

6. 6. Press the dough out into 2 flan rings. Mark into 8 equal portions and fork lightly.

7. 7. Bake for 15 – 20 minutes until golden brown.

8. 8. Dredge with caster sugar while hot.
