1. Wash and drain beans. 2. Add 7 cups water. 3. Cover and let stand overnight. 4. In the morning, bring to simmering point. 5. Cover tightly and simmer 3- 3 1/2 hours or until beans are tender. 6. Add sugar, syrup, vinegar, salt and nutmeg. 7. Mix cornstarch with 1 tablespoon cold water and stir into beans. 8. Simmer uncovered 15 minutes, until thickened (you may need to add more cornstarch). 9. Serve hot. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
