1. Put the sausages and the onion chunks in an oven-proof dish or casserole. 2. Pour in just enough ale to barely cover the sausages. 3. Bake at 375° to 400° Fahrenheit for 45 minutes. 4. Meanwhile, cook and mash the potatoes set aside and keep warm. 5. Remove the sausages from the baking dish and taste the liquid. 6. Add sugar if desired, season to taste, and thicken to make a gravy of the desired consistency with cornflour or Bisto. 7.
