1. Boil raisins in water for10 minutes. 2. Remove from heat; add shortening and lemon juice. 3. Cool. 4. Sift salt, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, flour, and baking soda. 5. Add to raisin mixture; beat well. 6. Add egg; beat again; add walnuts. 7. Pour into a greased cake pan. 8. Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 35 minutes until done. 9. FROSTING: 10. For frosting, melt butter and brown sugar. 11. Cook over low heat for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. 12. Add milk and continue stirring until mixture mixture comes to a boil. 13.
