1. Melt butter and sugar in a saucepan over low heat. 2. Add dates and cook 3 minutes and remove from heat. 3. Stir in cereal, vanilla, and pecans. 4. When cool enough to handle, shape into small balls about 1" in diameter. 5. Roll into confectioners' sugar (or flaked coconut -- see notes in recipe description). 6.
