1. Place beans in medium-sized pot with 4 cups of water & cook for 2 hours or until tender. 2. Drain the beans BUT KEEP THE WATER which will be used to cook rice. 3. In the same pan cook bacon until crisp, if needed add oil. 4. Add onion, garlic and pepper and saute for 3 minutes. 5. Add the bacon along with salt & pepper. 6. Add the water used to cook the beans and bring to a boil. 7. Add rice and cook for 20-25 minutes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
