Early American Spice Cake

1. Preheat oven to 350 F degrees.

2. Grease and flour a 9" X 13" pan.

3. Cream shortening and gradually add sugar beating until light and fluffy.

4. Add eggs all at one time, beating well after each addition.

5. Sift together flour, soda, salt and spices.

6. Add alternately with buttermilk, blend well after each addition.

7. Pour into prepared pan.

8. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until done.
