Kichadi


1. Remove cardamom seeds from pods and saute spices in oil in large pot.

2. Add chopped onions and bell pepper; saute until onion is soft.

3. Add rice and cook for 5 minutes.

4. Add water and salt and boil; cook on low for 20 minutes.

5. Add split peas and cook for 35 minutes more.
