1. In a heavy 1-quart saucepan mix sugar and cornstarch.

2. Stir in water.

3. Stir in cream and syrup.

4. Cook and stir over medium heat until boiling (mixture may appear.

6. Cook and stir an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in butter.

7. Serve warm over Apple Pie apple dumplings.

8. Refrigerate any unused portions.
