1. Saute chopped onion in shortening. 2. Add fresh tomatoes and chopped green chili peppers. 3. Add 1 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp pepper. 4. Simmer until well blended. 5. Add 1 lb grated American cheese. 6. Heat only until cheese melts. 7. Serve with tortilla chips. 8. Can add hot jalapeno peppers in addition to chili peppers if you like it HOT. 9. Makes 1 quart. 10.
