1. Peel and halve the onion lengthwise, then slice lengthwise into paper-thin slivers. 2. Heat ghee or butter in a heavy skillet over medium heat. 3. Add onions and salt. 4. Cook, stirring, until golden-brown, about 7-8 minutes. 5. Add okra, cumin and pepper. 6. Cook, lifting and turning vegetables, until okra is tender and most of the liquid has evaporated, about 25 minutes. 7.
