1. Cake: Cream butter and sugar. 2. Add eggs, vanilla, salt, and cloves; beat well. 3. Stir in applesauce. 4. Gradually add flour, mixing well. 5. Stir in butterscotch. 6. Pour into greased and floured 8 x 12 x 2-inch pan. 7. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes. 8. Add topping. 9. Topping: Boil all ingredients together until butter and morsels melt. 10.
