1. Melt bacon or meat drippings in a saucepan. 2. Sauté onions until golden but not brown. 3. Add potato slices, diced swede, water, and salt. 4. Cover tightly, and then simmer very gently until cooked. 5. Shake occasionally (try not to stir) to avoid sticking. 6. Check for readiness after ½ hour (may require up to 1 hour). 7.
