Charro 'Cowboy' Beans In A Slow Cooker Frijoles Charros | Glen And Friends Cooking

How to make Charro Beans or Cowboy Beans In A Slow Cooker... a slow cooker is the perfect way to make these cowboy beans - throw everything in, and forget it. Like I say in the video, there are many versions of this recipe. Different meats, no meat, different beans, a mix of beans, beer, spicing, etc, etc, etc. You can really make this recipe your own!

Ingredients
250g (½ pound) bacon, chopped
2 small onions, minced
2-3 jalapeño, diced
500g (1 pound) dry pinto beans
15 mL (1 Tbsp) ground cumin
10 mL (2 tsp) chili powder
1L (4 cups) broth (chicken, pork, or beef)
500 mL (2 cups) water
6 cloves garlic, crushed
1 540 mL (15-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1 cup fresh cilantro leaves, chopped

Method:
Rinse beans in a colander.
Cook bacon until the fat has rendered out and crispy.
Mince and dice the onions and jalapeño.
Place the beans, cumin, chili powder, onion, jalapeño, broth, water, crushed garlic, and bacon into slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low for 7 hours.
Stir in chopped tomatoes, cover, and cook for an additional hour or until tender.

For Borracho Beans, swap out the water for beer.
