Chicken beautifully marinated in spiced yogurt and cooked to perfection in luscious creamy gravy, tastes best served with steaming hot rice.

DAHI CHICKEN

Ingredients

1 cup yogurt (dahi), whisked
750 grams chicken on bones, cut into pieces
1 medium onion, chopped
1 inch ginger, roughly chopped
2-3 green chillies
7-8 garlic cloves
Salt to taste
1 tbsp oil
4 green cardamoms
1 tsp cumin seeds
¼ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp red chilli powder
½ tsp garam masala powder
6-8 fresh coriander sprigs
1 tablespoon dried fenugreek leaves

Method

1. Grind together onion, ginger, green chillies, garlic and salt to make a fine paste.
2. Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add green cardamoms and cumin seeds and sauté for 30 seconds.
3. Add ground paste and sauté for 2-3 minutes or till golden.
4. Add ¼ cup yogurt to the grinder jar and blend well.
5. Take chicken pieces in a bowl. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, garam masala powder, salt and 3-4 tbsps yogurt and mix well.
6. Add marinated chicken to ground yogurt mixture, mix, cover and cook for 3-4 minutes.
7. Finely chop coriander sprigs, add to pan along with blended yogurt and remaining yogurt, mix, cover and cook till chicken is three-fourth done.
8. Dry-roast dried fenugreek leaves in another non-stick pan till crisp.
9. Crush the roasted fenugreek leaves between your palms or pass through a strainer to get fine powder directly into the chicken mixture. Mix, cover and cook till chicken is done.
10. Serve hot.
