DAL RICE VADA

Ingredients

1½ cups split Bengal gram (chana dal), soaked for 5-6 hours and drained
2 cups cooked basmati rice
Oil for deep-frying
1 green chilli, finely chopped
2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves
Salt to taste
Black pepper powder to taste
Tomato ketchup for serving

Method

1. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.
2. Grind together split Bengal gram into thick and smooth mixture. Transfer in a bowl.
3. Add rice, green chillies, coriander leaves, salt, pepper powder to ground split Bengal gram and mix well.
4. Add 1 tablespoon hot oil to the ground split Bengal gram mixture and mix well.
5. Dampen your hand in with water, divide the mixture into equal portions and shape into balls and flatten between your palms to make thin vadas.
6. Put the vadas in hot oil and deep-fry on low heat till golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
7. Serve hot with tomato ketchup.
