GAVRAN ZIRKA

Ingredients

¼ cup raw peanuts
1 tbsp white sesame seeds
6-8 garlic cloves
1 inch ginger, roughly chopped
2 tsps cumin seeds
¼ cup grated dried coconut
½ cup chopped fresh coriander leaves
2 green chillies
3 tbsps oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
¼ tsp asafoetida (hing)
10-12 curry leaves
1 small onion, finely chopped
Salt to taste
Steamed rice to serve

Method

1. Put raw peanuts in mixer jar, add white sesame seeds, garlic, ginger, 1 tsp cumin seeds, dried coconut, coriander leaves, green chillies and ¼ cup water and grind to a fine paste.
2. Heat oil in a kadai. Add remaining cumin seeds and mustard seeds and let the seeds splutter. Add asafoetida and curry leaves and sauté for a few seconds.
3. Add onion and sauté till translucent. Add the ground paste and mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes.
4. Add 2 cups water and salt and mix till well combined. Let the mixture come to a boil.
5. Serve hot with steamed rice.
