Goli Idli It is an easy and less oil breakfast recipe made with tiny pebbles of rice flour balls. these rice balls are steamed till it becomes soft. it is healthy and prepared with minimal ingredients. It is generally served with a choice of spicy red chutney or coconut chutney.

Ingredient Quantity
Water 1 ½ Cup
Oil 1 Tbsp
Salt to taste
Asafoetida Pinch
Rice Flour 1½ cup

For filling:

Oil 1 Tbsp
Asafoetida ¼ Tsp
Urad dal 1 Tsp
Chana dal 1 Tsp
Mustard seeds 1 Tsp
Ginger chopped 1 Tsp
Green chilli chopped 1 Tsp
Curry leaves 12-15
Potato boiled 2 No.
Salt to taste
Turmeric powder ¼ Tsp
Coriander chopped 1 Tbsp

For chutney:

Onion chopped 1 No.
Fresh Coconut grated ½ cup
Ginger ½ inch
Garlic cloves 4-5 No.
Green chilli 2-3 No.
Dry red chilli 3-4 No.
Tamarind water 1 Tbsp
Water as required
Salt to taste
For Tempering:
Oil 2-3 Tbsp
Asafoetida ¼ Tsp
Urad dal 1 Tsp
Chana dal 1 Tbsp
Mustard seeds 1 Tsp
Ginger chopped 1 Tsp
Green chilli chopped 2 No.
Dry red chillies 2-3 No.
Curry leaves 20-25 No.
Coriander chopped 1 Tbsp

Method:

1. Take water in kadai, add oil, salt and asafoetida, mix well and bring to boil.
2. Add rice flour; mix well until the water is absorbed well.
3. Remove in bowl, cover with tissue paper and keep it aside for 5 min.
4. Heat oil in a pan; add asafoetida, urad dal, chana dal and mustard seeds, mix well and sauté for 1 min.
5. Add chopped ginger and green chilli, cut the curry leaves and add to the pan, mix well and sauté for 1 min.
6. Add boiled potatoes, salt and turmeric powder, mash and mix well.
7. Remove in bowl, add chopped coriander and mix well. Keep it aside.
8. Take water in big pot, place stand and flour sieve and cover with lid and bring to water boiled.
9. Take grinder jar, add onion chopped, coconut grated, ginger, garlic, green chilli, dry red chillies, tamarind water, water and salt and grind well.
10. Remove in bowl and keep it aside.
11. Take rice flour dough and mix well.
12. Apply little oil in your hand and divide the dough in equal size ball.
13. Apply water in your hand take one ball flatten them and stuff the prepared potato mixture in middle, cover it and shape it into a ball.
14. Apply little oil in plate and place the prepared balls on it.
15. Place the ball into flour sieve, cover it and steam for 10 minutes.
16. After 10 min. remove the lid and remove the goli idli and keep it aside.
17. Heat oil in kadai, add asafoetida, urad dal, chana dal, mustard seeds, chopped ginger and green chillies and mix well.
18. Add dry red chillies, mix well and sauté for 1 min.
19. Add curry leaves and mix well.
20. Remove some tadka form the pan and add to the prepared chutney.
21. Add steam goli idli in pan and mix well.
22. Add chopped coriander and mix well.
23. Remove in serving bowl and serve hot with prepared chutney.
