Gorkha Chutney Nepali Chutney Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

Here's a traditional Nepali recipe made using potatoes, sesame seeds and some local spices and flavourings. Serve along with roti for a perfectly delicious meal.

GORKHA CHUTNEY

Ingredients

cup black sesame seeds
cup mustard oil
tsp fenugreek seeds
tsp turmeric powder
2 cups boiled dried white peas
2 tsps crushed ginger-garlic
2-3 green chillies, slit
3-4 medium potatoes, boiled and peeled and cut into 1 inch pieces
Salt to taste
2 tbsps tamarind paste
2 medium onion, sliced
2 tbsps chopped fresh coriander leaves

Method

1. Heat a pan. Dry roast black sesame seeds for a minute. Transfer in a mortar and crush coarsely with a pestle.
2. Heat a pan. Add mustard oil and allow to smoke. Add fenugreek seeds, turmeric powder and mix well.
3. Add dried white peas, crushed ginger-garlic, green chillies, seeds powder and mix well. Cook for a minute.
4. Add potatoes, salt, tamarind paste and mix well, add onion, coriander and saut for a minute.
5. Serve.
