The best Kerala style Fish Curry that you can get anywhere. A 100-year-old recipe. We thought that this Red Fish Curry recipe by Grandma had to be shown to the world. Once you taste this Red Fish Curry, you will realize that it is not only a good curry but an excellent one....maybe the best Fish Curry that you ever had. It has all the flavours that you can ever imagine. We have used Black Pomfret but you may use any locally available fleshy Fish. Shown below is the step by step instructions on how to make Fish Curry, Grandma style. Ingredients:750 gms Fish5 tsp Kashmiri Red Chilli powder1/2 cup sliced Onions2 Gambooge/Kudampuli/Pot Tamarind or Kokum1 tsp Mustard seeds2 tsp Coriander powder5 cloves Garlic1/2 tsp Fenugreek seeds1/2 tsp Turmeric powder1 inch crushed Ginger2 tbsp Coconut OilCurry leavesSalt to tasteMethod:-- In a pan heat 1 tbsp Coconut Oil and splutter 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds and 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds.-- Put this in a Blender along with sliced Onions, Garlic, Kashmiri Red Chilli powder, Coriander powder, Turmeric powder, water and grind to a smooth paste.-- Take the cleaned and washed Fish in an earthen pot or pan and add the ground masala paste, 3 cups of Water, Salt to taste, washed Pot Tamarind pieces, Curry leaves and let it come to a boil.-- Add crushed Ginger and cover and cook on low flame for 15-20 minutes till the Fish has cooked and the gravy thickened slightly.-- In a pan heat 1 tbsp Coconut Oil and fry 2 tbsp chopped Onions till brown.-- Add 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds and 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds and splutter.-- Pour this tempering over the Fish Curry-- Keep covered for 10 minutes before serving with hot steamed rice/Tapioca.Hope you have enjoyed watching this video.
