How to Make Japanese Green Tea Ice Cream without matcha powder. You use green tea! Japanese loose leaf green tea has a similar flavor to matcha.

Why would you use green tea instead of matcha? Well, green tea in general tends to cost less and is also easier to find. So that's two reasons. A third is that I get tired of eating (and drinking) matcha tea so like to switch things up sometimes, maybe you do too!

And if you use good quality green tea, you may even prefer green tea to matcha!

I grind up my green tea leaves using a food processor and then simmer the mixture in milk.
This milk tea base is what forms the basis of this green tea ice cream!
