Welcome to axe night suppers and tonight I'm cooking a sausage and pasta one pan recipe.Ingredients:15 mL (1 Tbsp) olive oil500g (1 pound) Italian sausage, sliced1 medium onion, diced2-3 cloves fresh minced garlic1 pepper, diced (sweet or hot)500 mL (2 cups) chicken broth295 mL (1 10-ounce) can diced tomatoes75 mL (¼ cup) milk or cream225g (8 ounces) dry pasta250 mL (1 cup) frozen peas250 mL (1 cup) frozen brocoli floretsSalt and pepper to taste250 mL (1 cup) shredded Wisconsin Brick cheese (optional)Method:Heat oil in a sauté pan over medium high heat. Add sausage and fry it off until browning. Add onion, pepper, and garlic; continue to sauce until onions are translucent.Add tomatoes, pasta, chicken broth, milk, salt and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil, cover, and reduce heat to low. Simmer for about 15 minutes, or until pasta is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.Add frozen peas, and frozen broccoli florets; recover and cook 2-3 minutes more.Turn off the heat and stir in up to 1 cup of shredded cheese; if desired.
