Langar ki Dal | Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

Delicious and flavourful dal straight from the Gurudwara Langar.

LANGAR KI DAL

Ingredients

¾ cup whole black gram (sabut urad), soaked and drained
½ cup chana dal, soaked and drained
Salt to taste
1½ tsps turmeric powder
2 tbsps ghee
2 tsps cumin seeds
1 inch ginger, finely chopped
3 small onions, finely chopped
2 green chillies, slit
2 medium tomatoes, chopped
½ cup freshly chopped coriander leaves
½ tsp turmeric powder
2 tsps coriander powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
2 tsps garam masala powder
Coriander sprig for garnish

Method

1. Add whole black gram, chana dal, salt, 1 tsp turmeric powder, 5 cups water, mix well. Cover and cook till the pressure is released for 4-5 whistles.
2. Heat ghee in a non-stick pan, add cumin seeds and sauté till they begin to change colour. Add ginger, onions and sauté till golden brown in colour.
3. Add green chillies, tomato, salt and cook till tomato are pulpy.
4. Add ¼ cup chopped coriander, remaining turmeric powder, coriander powder and chilli powder, sauté for 2-3 minutes.
5. Add cooked dal and mix well. Add garam masala powder and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Add remaining coriander, mix well.
6. Serve hot garnished with coriander sprig.
