Skip on buying chai snacks and make them at home instead. With organic moong dal and selective spices, these Moong Dal Chaklis are deep fried till crunchy.

MOONG DAL CHAKLI

Ingredients

½ cup Tata Sampann Organic Moong Dal
¼ tsp turmeric powder
¼ tsp asafoetida (hing)
2 tbsps melted butter + for greasing
Salt to taste
¼ tsp cumin powder
¼ tsp carom seeds (ajwain)
1½ cups rice flour
Oil for deep frying


Method

1. In a large bowl, add Tata Sampann Organic Moong Dal and wash it 2-3 times. Add sufficient water and soak for 2-3 hours.
2. Drain and pressure cook it along with turmeric and hing till 3-4 whistles are released.
3. Grease the chakli maker with butter and set aside.
4. In a large bowl, add the cooked dal, salt, cumin powder, ajwain and 2 tbsps butter.
5. Add rice flour little by little and mix. Drizzle a little water and mix well to form a soft dough.
6. Take a portion of the prepared dough and add it into the greased chakli maker and place the press on it.
7. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai, press the chakli maker to form sticks on a plastic sheet. Drop in the sticks into the hot oil and deep fry till golden brown and crisp. Drain on an absorbent paper. Cool down to room temperature.
8. Serve as required or store in an air-tight container.
