Moongdal Idli | Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

MOONGDAL IDLI

Ingredients

⅓ cup split black gram (urad dal), soaked for 3-4 hours
⅓ cup split green gram (moong dal), soaked for 3-4 hours
1 green chilli
½ inch ginger
Salt to taste
¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
A pinch asafoetida
Oil for greasing

Method

1. Blend black gram with some water to smooth paste. Transfer in a bowl.
2. Blend together green gram, green chilli and ginger with some water to smooth paste. Add this to the bowl alongwith salt and mix well. Set aside to ferment for 5-6 hours.
3. Add turmeric powder and asafoetida and mix well.
4. Heat sufficient water in a steamer.
5. Grease idli mould with some oil and spoon in the prepared mixture in it. Place the stand in the steamer and steam for 10 minutes.
6. Demould and serve hot with green coconut chutney.
