This nutritious and flavourful murg aur masoor ki dal is sure to become a family favourite.


MURGH AUR MASOOR KI DAL

Ingredients

750 grams chicken on the bone, cut into 2 inch pieces
1 cup Tata Sampann Whole Masoor Dal, soaked and boiled with salt and turmeric powder
2 medium onions, sliced
2-3 tbsps yogurt
8-10 garlic cloves, crushed
1 inch ginger, crushed
1½ tbsps oil
1 tsp cumin seeds
Salt to taste
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
½ tbsp coriander powder
½ tsp cumin powder
4-5 light green chillies, slit
2 tbsps freshly chopped coriander leaves + for garnish
1 inch ginger, cut into thin strips + for garnish
1½ tbsps ghee
Quartered onions to serve
Lemon wedges to serve

Method

1. Heat a non-stick deep pan, add chicken, onions, yogurt, garlic, ginger and add oil.
2. Add cumin seeds, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and sauté on high heat for 1-2 minutes.
3. Add ½ cup water, green chillies, and sauté for 4-5 minutes. Let the mixture come to a boil.
4. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes. Add boiled Tata Sampann Whole Masoor Dal and mix well.
5. Add chopped coriander and ginger, cut into thin strips. Add ghee and mix well. Add water to adjust the consistency, mix well. Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes.
6. Transfer into a serving bowl and garnish with chopped coriander, slit green chillies and ginger strips.
7. Serve hot with quartered onions and lemon wedges.
