Peyazi Pyazi Bengali Style Onion Pakoda Kolkata Street Food Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

When it is tea-time, and hunger pangs start, do try this Bengali way of having onion fritters that is unique in its preparation.

PEYAZI

Ingredients

4-5 medium onions, thinly sliced
Salt to taste
1 tsp sugar
2 green chillies, finely chopped
cup gram flour (besan)
2 tbsps refined flour (maida)
2 tbsps rice flour
tsp turmeric powder
Oil for deep frying
Tomato ketchup to serve
Tea to serve

Method

1. Take the onions in a large bowl. Add salt, sugar and mix well. Lightly mix and crush your fingers. Add green chillies and mix. Set aside for 10-15 minutes.
2. Add gram flour, refined flour, rice flour, turmeric powder and mix well.
3. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai. Gently slide in small portions of the mixture into the hot oil and deep fry till golden brown and crisp. Drain on an absorbent paper.
4. Serve hot with tomato ketchup and tea.
