How to Make Plain CookiesPreheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.In a large bowl, whisk 1 egg and then add in the sugar, oil, and vanilla extract and mix well.In another bowl, sift the flour and salt.Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix together. Add a touch more flour if the dough is too sticky. If adding nuts, chips, or dried fruit, fold that into the dough.Using your hands, mold tablespoon sizes of batter into cookie shapes; be sure to make the cookies an even thickness. Or roll out the batter and cut the dough into cookie shapes.Place cookies on parchment paper on a baking sheet and bake in the oven until very lightly browned on the top, the cookies will not color up much before they are finished. If they are browned well on the bottom, they are likely done. If you wait for the top to color well, they will be overdone. 12-15 minutes baking time is a good estimate for tablespoon-sized cookies. Remove cookies from the oven and transfer to a cooling rack. Allow the cookies to cool completely for the ultimate crunchiness.
