Learn to make traditional Pongal in Tamil

PONGAL
Ingredient

1/2 cup split skinless green gram (dhuli moong dal), washed
1 cup kolum rice, soaked
Salt to taste
2 ½ tbsp ghee
1 ½ tsps cumin seeds
5-6 black peppercorns
10-12 cashewnuts, broken
10-12 curry leaves
¼ tsp asafoetida
1 inch ginger piece, finely chopped

Method

1. Add kolum rice, moong dal, salt, add 4 cups of water, cover and cook for in a pressure cooker till 4 whistles are given out.
2. Heat ghee in a non-stick pan, add cumin seeds, black peppercorn, cashewnut ,curry leaves ,asafoetida and sauté for a minute.
3. Add ginger and sauté for 2-3 minutes on a medium heat.
4. Add prepared mixture in a cooked dal-rice mixture and mix well.
5. Serve hot with coconut chutney.
