Prawn Ghassi Recipe | Cooksmart | Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

All time favourite - this prawn dish is a winner. Prawns cooked in spicy fresh ground coconut based masala. A must try !

PRAWN GHASSI

Ingredients

18-20 medium prawns, shelled and deveined
4 tbsps oil
1 tbsp coriander seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
10-12 black peppercorns
¼ tsp fenugreek seeds (methi dana)
2 medium onions
2-3 dried red chillies, broken
4-5 garlic cloves
4 tbsps freshly scraped coconut
¼ tsp turmeric powder
1½ tbsps tamarind pulp
Salt to taste

Method

1. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a non-stick pan, add coriander seeds, cumin seeds, peppercorns and fenugreek seeds and saute till fragrant. Switch off the heat and cool down to room temperature.
2. Roughly chop one onion.
3. Heat remaining oil in another non-stick pan, add onions and sauté till translucent.
4. Transfer the roasted ingredients into a mixer jar, add dried chillies, garlic and scraped coconut.
5. Quarter remaining onion and add to the mixer jar. Add turmeric powder, tamarind pulp and ½ cup water and grind to a fine paste.
6. Add ground paste to the pan. Add ½ cup water and salt and mix well.
7. Add prawns and mix well and cook till the prawns are done.
8. Transfer the prawn ghassi into a serving bowl and serve immediately.
