Rasam (Without Rasam powder) - Onam Special Series No 3 | Indian Mom's Kitchen

Rasam is very easy to make. Here is how you can make it at home without Rasam powder.

Ingredients:
2 large Tomatoes
1/4 cup grated Coconut
1/2 tsp Pepper
1/4 tsp Hing
6 dry Red Chillies
3 cups Water
1 tbsp Coriander seeds
1 tbsp Urad Dal
1/4 tsp Methi seeds
1/4 tsp Turmeric
1/4 cup Tamarind pulp
1/2 tsp Mustard
3 tbsp Oil
Curry leaves
Coriander leaves
Salt to taste

Method: Heat 2 tbsp Oil and fry Methi, Hing, Urad dal, Pepper, Coriander seeds and dry Red Chillies. Then add grated Coconut, Curry leaves, Turmeric and saute well. Add chopped Tomatoes and mix well. Remove from heat, cool and grind this mixture into a fine paste. Pour this paste into a pan, add Tamarind pulp, 3 cups of water and salt and bring to boil. Cook for 5 minutes.
In another pan put 1 tbsp oil and splutter Mustard. Then add dry Red Chillies, Curry leaves and Coriander leaves and saute well. Pour this tempering over the Rasam. Serve Rasam garnished with more Coriander leaves and Curry leaves.
