Orange Dal Shorba

Ingredients:

Oranges - 2

Tur dal - ¼ cup

Bengal gram Dal - ¼  cup

Mung dal - ¼ cup

Turmeric powder - ½ tsp

Chopped ginger - 1 tsp

Chopped green chillie - 1 (optional)

Onion - 1 medium chopped

Tomatoes - 6 medium chopped

Coriander leaves'stems - a handful 

Crushed black pepper - ¾ tsp or to taste

Cumin seeds - 2 tsp

Salt to taste

Ghee - few tsps or to taste

Method:

In a pressure cooker, heat ghee and saute chopped ginger, green chillies, onions till onions r translucent

Then add the coriander leaves stems and saute

Now add the chopped tomatoes and saute

Then add the 3 types of Dals, which are already washed well

Add turmeric powder 

Add water for the Dal mix to pressure cook

Close with the lid and place weight valve

Reduce the flame to lowest and pressure cook for 10/12 mins or till the dals are well cooked

Once the Dal Mix is cooked well, allow to come to room temperature

Then, grind everything to a smooth gravy

Filter the soup

Add it back to a pan to start boiling, adjusting consistency with water

Add salt to taste

In a small pan, heat ghee, splutter cumin seeds and crushed black pepper

Add this tempering to the Dal Shorba

Switch off flame

Extract orange juice and add to the Dal Shorba

Yummilicious Orange Dal Shorba is ready!
