Self cleaning oven uses high heat as high as 900 degrees F to burn down food spills to ashes. Before using the self clean setting of your oven, always turn on your kitchen fan or heat extractor and open up all the windows. Do not forget to take out the oven pans and racks unless they are coated with enamel. Finally, let the oven cool down completely before opening to wipe out the ashes.
