Start slow! Yes you can eat them raw! Cruciferous veggies have been studied showing conclusively that they help up-regulate (meaning it improves) hepatic enzymes thus improving and supporting our natural detox pathways. The glucosinolates sulphoraphane and DIM (diindolylmethane) are key players in healthy and effective detox. Top choices are of course broccoli and broccoli sprouts but also any brassica family veggies like cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, arugula, bok choy, radish, mustard greens other veggies that are on the top list are raw garlic, onions, leeks and shallots. Phase 2 of detox needs nutrition and we need fiber to usher undesirable compounds out of our bodies. The longer I continue to choose a raw vegan diet, the more I believe that I am thriving because of my choice to eat a wide variety and working to build and support in a consistent, non extreme manner.
