From our research there are two ways of looking at the topic:

1- AGAINST GOING UP: This is the majority opinion today. We are not 100% sure of the exact location in the Temple Mount of the Beit Hamidkash. Stepping in the wrong place would be an issur karet, so why risk that? What is the need?

Additionally, there are many people who will not be careful to follow the Halachic restrictions there (such as Mikvah requirements for men AND women, shoes, where not to go etc),

2- FOR GOING UP: We know for certain where the Beit HaMikdash WASN'T. For the first time in 2000 years we have a chance to go up, how can we miss the chance?


Some things to keep in mind when discussing with your rabbi:
Being Tameh Met is NOT a prohibition for entering Temple Mount, it's a prohibition for entering the site of the actual Temple.

It seems that the Ramabam himself went up and made it a personal Yom Tov for himself on that date.
