Why do we eat so many cruciferous veggies, onions and garlic?

Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, kale, cabbage, Brussels sprouts and more along with garlic and onion are all rich in sulfur compounds, among many other beneficial nutrients!

Sulfur is the third most important mineral in the body, next to calcium and phosphorous. It helps maintain skin elasticity, andthe sulfur bonds help muscles, skin and bones maintain their shape.

Other sulfur containing compounds, including glucosinolates, are converted into potent bioactive substances during digestion.

They play a crucial role in supporting the natural daily detoxification processes in our bodies, helping to fix DNA, assisting in the elimination of harmful substances, protecting against cellular damage and supporting optimal organ function.

Sulforaphane, abundant in cruciferous vegetables, is known for its powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

It promotes cellular defense by activating various protective enzymes in the body.

Its benefits also extend to supporting heart health, skin and joint health, reducing inflammation, and even potentially helping to prevent certain types of cancer.

Glutathione, another sulfur containing nutrient, often referred to as the "master antioxidant," plays a crucial role in protecting our cells from oxidative stress and damage.
