Add this sweet and sour twist to your regular kadhi and you will definitely fall in love with this dish.

AMLA KADHI

Ingredients

1-2 Indian gooseberries (amla), roughly chopped
5-6 garlic cloves
2 tsps cumin seeds
2 tsps coriander seeds
2 dried red chillies
½ cup scraped fresh coconut
2 tbsps ghee
3-4 cloves
2 inch cinnamon stick, broken
¼ tsp fenugreek seeds (methi dana)
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1½ tsps Tata Sampann Chilli Powder
¼ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp coriander powder
¾ tsp cumin powder
Salt to taste
1½ cups buttermilk
Fresh coriander sprig for garnish
Steamed rice to serve

Method

1. Dry roast garlic cloves, cumin seeds, coriander seeds and dried red chillies in a non-stick pan till fragrant. Transfer into a blender jar, add coconut, Indian gooseberries and ½ cup water and blend to a fine powder.
2. Heat ghee in a non-stick deep pan, add cloves, cinnamon stick and fenugreek seeds and sauté till fragrant.
3. Add onion and mix and sauté till translucent. Add the blended paste, and sauté for 1-2 minutes.
4. Add 1 cup water, mix, add Tata Sampann Chilli Powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and salt and mix. Cook for a minute, cover and cook for 3-4 minutes or till the oil separates.
5. Add buttermilk, mix and let it come to a boil, simmer for 2-3 minutes. Switch the heat off and transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander sprig and serve hot with steamed rice.
