बटानी उसली | Batani Usli | Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

A simple South Indian recipes with Batani that is green peas, usually made with dried ones but here let’s make it with the seasonal special fresh green peas that is turned into a delicious and wholesome breakfast.

BATANI USLI

Ingredients

2 cups shelled green peas
2 tbsps oil
½ tsp mustard seeds
½ tsp split skinless black gram (dhuli urad dal)
½ tsp Bengal gram (chana dal)
3 dried red chillies, stemmed
1 green chilli, slit
10-12 curry leaves
½ tsp asafoetida (hing)
1 tsp grated ginger
½ tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
2 tbsps scraped fresh coconut
2 tbsps chopped fresh coriander leaves

Method

1. Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add split skinless black gram, Bengal gram, dried red chillies, green chilli, curry leaves and asafoetida and mix well.
2. Add ginger and mix well. Add turmeric powder and mix.
3. Add green peas, salt and mix till well combined. Add ¼ cup water, mix and cook for 8-10 minutes.
4. Add coconut and coriander leaves and mix well. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
