A simple South Indian recipes with Batani that is green peas, usually made with dried ones but here let’s make it with the seasonal special fresh green peas that is turned into a delicious and wholesome breakfast.BATANI USLIIngredients2 cups shelled green peas2 tbsps oil½ tsp mustard seeds½ tsp split skinless black gram (dhuli urad dal)½ tsp Bengal gram (chana dal)3 dried red chillies, stemmed1 green chilli, slit10-12 curry leaves½ tsp asafoetida (hing)1 tsp grated ginger½ tsp turmeric powderSalt to taste2 tbsps scraped fresh coconut2 tbsps chopped fresh coriander leavesMethod1. Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add split skinless black gram, Bengal gram, dried red chillies, green chilli, curry leaves and asafoetida and mix well.2. Add ginger and mix well. Add turmeric powder and mix.3. Add green peas, salt and mix till well combined. Add ¼ cup water, mix and cook for 8-10 minutes.4. Add coconut and coriander leaves and mix well. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
