Dal makhani is something every family member loves. I'm going to show you how to make a delicious bowl of Dal Makhani, you can have a hot plate of jeera rice. My daughter Shambhavi was of great help throughout the cook. However, one thing we couldn't avoid were the food stains on our clothes! She got them all over her favourite dress.

Ingredients
• 2 cup whole black lentil ( whole urad)
• 1/4 cup kidney beans
• 2 tbsp Ghee/oil
• 1 tbsp butter
• 1 tsp cumin seed
• 2 piece bay leaf
• 3-4 pieces of cloves
• 2 pieces of cardamom
• 1-inch cinnamon stick
• 1 piece dry red chilly
• 1 tsp grated ginger
• 1 tsp grated garlic
• 1 cup onions (finely chopped)
• 1 cup tomatoes (finely chopped)
• 1-11/2 tsp red chilly powder
• 1 tsp coriander powder
• 1 ½ tsp Dal makhani masala
• Salt to taste
• 1 tsp Kasuri methi
• 2 tbsp fresh cream
• Freshly chopped coriander leaves

Instructions on how to make Dal Makhani:
1. Soak whole black lentil and kidney beans with enough water for 6-7 hours or overnight.
2. Put salt and turmeric powder add 2-3 cups water and cook for 15-20 minutes.
3. Put butter, ghee in a pan and let the oil heat for few seconds.
4. Now add all the whole spices ( bay leaf, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon stick, dry red chilly) and cook on low flame for few seconds.
5. Now add cumin seed and let it crackle and saute till it becomes light brown.
6. Now add grated ginger and garlic and sauté for few seconds.
7. Now add chopped onions and cook till it becomes soft and translucent.
8. Now add chopped tomatoes and cook on medium flame till tomatoes become soft and mushy.
9. Add red chilly powder, coriander powder, dal makhani masala, salt and saute for few minutes or till oil separates.
10. Add cooked dal and mix it well.
11. Cook till dal starts boiling.
12. Lastly add Kasuri methi, garam masala, fresh cream and mix it well.
13. Dal makhani is ready to serve.
