Dal Tadka Restaurant Style | Dhabha style Dal Fry recipe | Kanak's Kitchen

Learn how to make 'Dal Tadka / Dal Fry', a very easy to make dal recipe by chef Kanak. Dal Tadka is one of the most popular dal preparations in the Indian households. It is hassle-free to cook and tastes delicious with some jeera rice or rotis.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup yellow pigeon dal / toor dal
1/2 cup split yellow peas (yellow moong dal)
2 tbsp clarified butter / ghee
3 cloves
small cinnamon piece
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp asafoetida
2 - 3 dry red chillies
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
salt to taste
1 big onion - finely chopped
1 big tomato - finely chopped
1 tbsp ginger garlic - crushed
2 green chillies - finely chopped
2 tsp lemon juice
fresh coriander

Method:

- Pressure cook dal with 2 cups of water and salt until they are nicely boiled and then mash the same.
- In a wok, heat some ghee and add cumin seeds.
- Once the cumin seeds begin to splutter, add asafoetida. dry red chillies, cloves and the cinnamon stick and stir-fry it for a while.
- Add the onions and fry them on medium high heat until they turn slightly golden brown in colour.
- While you saute the onion, add ginger garlic, green chillies and the curry leaves and let it cook further for some more time.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook for around 3 - 4 minutes until the tomatoes are cooked through and become slightly tender and mushy.
- Add salt, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala and turmeric powder and cook for around 2-3 minutes adding some water in between.
- Then add the cooked dal to it and mix well. Add some lemon and water to it and bring it to a boil. Let it cook for sometime and keep adding water as required to get the desired consistency.
- Lastly, put the fresh coriander leaves and mix well.
- The delicious Dal Tadka s ready to be served.
