Learn how to make 'Dal Tadka / Dal Fry', a very easy to make dal recipe by chef Kanak. Dal Tadka is one of the most popular dal preparations in the Indian households. It is hassle-free to cook and tastes delicious with some jeera rice or rotis.Ingredients: 1/2 cup yellow pigeon dal / toor dal1/2 cup split yellow peas (yellow moong dal)2 tbsp clarified butter / ghee3 clovessmall cinnamon piece1 tsp cumin seeds1/2 tsp asafoetida2 - 3 dry red chillies1/2 tsp turmeric powder1 tsp red chilli powder1 tsp coriander powder1/2 tsp garam masalasalt to taste1 big onion - finely chopped1 big tomato - finely chopped1 tbsp ginger garlic - crushed2 green chillies - finely chopped2 tsp lemon juicefresh corianderMethod:- Pressure cook dal with 2 cups of water and salt until they are nicely boiled and then mash the same.- In a wok, heat some ghee and add cumin seeds. - Once the cumin seeds begin to splutter, add asafoetida. dry red chillies, cloves and the cinnamon stick and stir-fry it for a while.- Add the onions and fry them on medium high heat until they turn slightly golden brown in colour.- While you saute the onion, add ginger garlic, green chillies and the curry leaves and let it cook further for some more time. - Add the chopped tomatoes and cook for around 3 - 4 minutes until the tomatoes are cooked through and become slightly tender and mushy.- Add salt, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala and turmeric powder and cook for around 2-3 minutes adding some water in between.- Then add the cooked dal to it and mix well. Add some lemon and water to it and bring it to a boil.
