Glen gets real Making French Onion Chip Dip from scratch, and Julie stops by for a taste test. Super Bowl Snacks here we come!Ingredients:2 Tbsp (30 mL) butter2 cups (500 mL) diced onions4 shallots½ tsp (2 mL) salt2 Tbsp (30 mL) balsamic vinegar½ tsp (2 mL) white pepper½ tsp (2 mL) cayenne pepper4 oz (120g) cream cheese ½ cup (125 mL) sour cream ½ tsp (2 mL) onion powder ¼ tsp (1 mL) garlic powderMethod:Melt the butter in a fry pan over medium heat.Add the onions, shallots, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring. Then reduce the heat to medium low and cook for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the balsamic vinegar and reduce.Remove from stove and allow to cool.Cream the cream cheese in a stand mixer or with a hand mixer.Add the sour cream, garlic powder and onion powder and cream until lump free.Add the cooled and caramelised onions. Mix until just combined.
