Daal Kofta Curry

Ingredients for Daal Kofta Mixture:
Split chickpeas soaked (daal chana) 2 cups
Onion (chopped & squeezed) 1 cup
Green coriander (chopped) 1/2 cup
Green chilies (chopped) 2 tbsp
Red chili powder 1 tbsp
Coriander powder 1 tsp
Salt 1 tsp
Cumin powder 1 tsp
Oil (for frying) as required

Ingredients for Onion Tomato Puree:
Oil 2 tbsp
Onion (sliced) 1 cup
Tomatoes (sliced) 1 cup
Green chilies 2-3
Ginger pods 2-3
Garlic cloves 2-3

Ingredients for Daal Kofta Curry:
Oil 1/4 cup
Prepared onion tomato puree
Red chili powder 1 tsp
Cumin powder 1 tsp
Coriander powder 1 tsp
Salt 1 tsp
Yogurt 1 cup
Hot water 1 cup
Green coriander (chopped) for garnishing

Directions for Daal Kofta Mixture Preparation:
1. In a chopper add soaked split chickpeas and blend them well.
2. Transfer them to a bowl and add onion, green coriander, green chilies, red chili powder, coriander powder, salt, cumin powder and mix it well.
3. Make small round kofta shapes from this mixture.
4. Now in a pan heat oil and shallow fry the prepared kofta until golden brown from each side. Set aside.
Directions for Onion Tomato Puree Preparation:
5. In a pan heat oil and add onion, tomatoes, green chilies, ginger, garlic and cook for 2-3 mins or until soft.
6. Transfer this mixture into a jar and blend it well with hand blender until smooth puree has formed. Set aside.
Directions for Daal Kofta Curry Preparation:
7. In a pot heat oil and add prepared onion tomato puree. Cook for a minute.
8. Add red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, salt and cook for 2-3 mins.
9. Now add yogurt and cook until oil separates.
10. Add fried kofta, hot water and cover and cook until gravy is thick and kofta are fully done.
11. Dish it out and garnish it with green coriander. Your Daal Kofta Curry is ready.
