How to Fillet a Trout (or other whole fish) in Minutes - How to Remove Fish from the bone

Learn how to fillet a whole trout by slicing down the midline of the top of the fish. Then remove the fish skeleton in one motion to reveal the deboned bottom half of the fish. Always check your fish for small bones you may have missed.

We love cooking these whole trout from Costco on the grill or under the broiler. They cost about $3 per fish, which feeds 2 adults and 2 young children for one meal. The leftovers will go into trout sushi rolls in the morning for my daughters lunchbox. They are beloved in our family and served with lots of homemade tartar sauce!

I hope this helps you feel more confident cooking whole fish for your family. Or you can easily practice on a whole smoked white fish from the deli. Definitely worth trying!
