Matar Paneer is a favourite to everyone and here's the authentic way to make it in your kitchens.

MATAR PANEER

Ingredients

1 cup blanched green peas
250 grams homemade cottage cheese (paneer)
2 tbsps oil
1 tsp cumin seeds
2 medium onions, chopped
2 green chillies, chopped
2 tbsps ginger-garlic paste
1 cup fresh tomato puree
¼ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
2 tsps coriander powder
Salt to taste
½ tsp sugar
½ tsp garam masala powder
½ tsp dried fenugreek leaves
2 tsps butter
2 tbsps chopped fresh coriander
Phulkas to serve

Method

1. Heat oil and ghee in a nonstick pan. Add cumin seeds. Once they start to change the colour, add onions and sauté till golden brown.
2. Add green chillies, ginger-garlic paste and continue to sauté for a minute more.
3. Add tomato puree, mix well and cook on medium heat for 5-6 minutes or till oil separates.
4. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander powder and mix well.
5. Add salt, ¾ cup water and mix well. Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes.
6. Add sugar and mix well. Add green peas and mix well.
7. Add garam masala powder, dried fenugreek leaves and mix well.
8. Add cottage cheese and mix with light hands. Add butter and mix well.
9. Add coriander and mix well. Garnish with coriander sprig and serve hot with phulkas.
