Imarti/Jhangri | Indian Mom's Kitchen

Imarti, also known as Jhangri, is a famous Indian sweet made from Urad Dal. Let me show you how it can easily be made at home.
Ingredients:
1 cup Urad Dal
1 tbsp Rice flour
3 cups Sugar
11/2 cup Water
Oil for deep frying
Orange Food Colour
Method: In a pan combine Sugar and Water and make a Syrup of 1 thread consistency. To this add Orange food colour, remove from flame and keep aside.
Grind Urad Dal that has been soaked for 3 hours, to a smooth paste with very little water. To this add the Rice flour and Orange Food Colour and mix well. Next, put this Batter into a Piping bag and make a small cut at the tip of the bag. In a pan heat Oil for deep frying and pipe out the Imarti batter into the hot Oil and fry until crisp. To get the shape of the Imarti, first, make 2 large circles and then small spiral circles on the rim of these two large circles. Once crisp transfer the Imartis into the Sugar Syrup. Let the Imartis be immersed in the Sugar Syrup for at least 30 minutes before serving.
