For this video, we headed down to Bebek Goreng at Westgate to attempt a challenging 20-portion Indonesian Deep Fried Duck Platter! Joining us were the guys from the channel Ready Set Bro (@goshisong and @mehkeith) who attempted a smaller challenge after watching (and hopefully learning how) me do it.Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut is an Indonesian-style restaurant that serves up a range of authentic Indonesian cuisine with their specialty being Deep Fried Indonesian Duck. In fact, bebek goreng translates directly to fried duck with one Crispy Fried Duck with Rice costing $9.90.My challenge consisted of over 10 portions of rice, 2 deep-fried ducks, 2 deep-fried chicken, gado-gado (Indonesian mixed vegetable salad), tempeh (fermented soybeans), tofu and a whole tray covered in greenery. The people at Bebek Goreng really put in care and craftmanship into creating this platter, making it vibrant and colourful with hand-carved tomatoes and cucumbers. It also came with an assortment of chilli blends and sauces. The resulting platter was over 6KG of Indonesian goodness.The duck was exceptionally tender inside yet crispy on the outside. It was honestly the star of the meal. Think of the top few fried chicken you have had, but with an Indonesia-style marinade and duck flavour complemented by their spicy chilli sauce. The chicken came a close second, but after having the duck, it seemed pale in comparison. The sides were authentic and decent, with the gado gado drizzled in peanut sauce, giving additional crunch and a nutty flavour to the already crisp vegetables. The ideal way to eat this for me was taking some duck, rice and a dollop of chilli sauce in one bite, giving you a flavour to die for.Despite the wonderful duck, I was unable to complete this challenge although I pushed myself considerably.
