Tilli Karre is a favorite snack & a popular street food in Kashmir Valley. These are crispy fritters made either from chickpeas or dried green peas (interchangeably called Karre or Karri in Kashmiri language), dipped in rice flour batter and are then deep fried in hot oil (Teel in Kashmiri) until golden brown. Besan known as Gram flour or All purpose flour or mix of these can also be used. Aloo Monji or Olav Monji are potato fritters dipped in the same rice flour batter and deep fried until golden brown. The method of preparation of Teli Karre and Aloo Monji is the same as Nadir Monji (Lotus Stem fritters) in fact the same batter can be used. If you are craving for some Kashmiri street food right now then do give this recipe a try and enjoy. Radish & Onion chutney goes very well with any Kashmiri street food and Teli Karre and Aloo Monji are no exception.
