KONKANI CALAMARI DRY

Ingredients

4-5 large squids, cut into rings
½ cup scraped coconut
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 medium tomato, finely chopped
1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
½ teaspoon sambhar powder
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chilli powder
1 teaspoon garam masala powder
2-3 cloves
½ inch cinnamon stick
5-6 black peppercorns
1 inch piece ginger
Salt to taste
2 tablespoon oil
1 teaspoon lemon juice
A sprig of coriander for garnish

Method

1. Take calamari in a large bowl. Add salt and turmeric and keep
aside for 10-15 minutes to marinate.
2. Heat oil in a nonstick pan. Add cloves, black peppercorns,
cinnamon and half the chopped onions and sauté till golden
brown.
3. Add coconut and sauté for 2 minutes.
4. Cool and grind to a fine paste. Add some water if required.
5. Heat remaining oil in a nonstick pan. Add onions and sauté till
golden brown in colour.
6. Add ginger garlic paste and mix. Add tomatoes and salt and
sauté for 2 minutes.
7. Add calamari and mix. Add sambhar powder, red chilli powder
and garam masala and mix.
8. Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes.
9. Add ground masala and mix well. Cover and cook for 5–10
minutes or till squids are well cooked.
10. Add lemon juice and mix well.
11. Garnish with coriander and serve hot.
